The recording
The debut Ramones album was recorded in 1976 at Plaza Sound Studios in New York, produced by Craig Leon and drummer Tommy Ramone. The production focused on a 'cinéma vérité' approach, capturing the band's live energy with minimal processing and aggressive stereo separation. Johnny Ramone tracked his guitar parts by plugging his Mosrite directly into a cranked Marshall amp to achieve his iconic, raw, and compressed tone without the use of distortion pedals.
