The recording
The album was recorded across several studios including Studio 880 in Oakland and Ocean Way in Los Angeles, produced by Rob Cavallo. The rhythm guitar sound was achieved by layering multiple tracks of Billie Joe's Les Paul Junior to create a thick, wall-of-sound effect. The signal was recorded into Marshall amps modified with additional gain stages and vintage-style Victoria tube cabinets to capture a raw, high-energy punk tone, avoiding excessive compression to preserve natural dynamics.
