The recording
La Grange was recorded for the 1973 album Tres Hombres at Robin Hood Studios in Tyler, Texas. The session was captured by the band's long-time producer Terry Manning. The tone is famous for its 'straight-in' approach, relying on the chemistry between Billy Gibbons' signature playing style—using thin .007 gauge strings and aggressive percussive picking—and a 1969 Marshall Super Lead 100 watt head pushed to its absolute limits of power-tube saturation rather than preamp gain.
