The recording
The album was recorded at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, in April 1980. Produced by Robert John 'Mutt' Lange with engineer Tony Platt, the band tracked the core rhythmic parts live as a unit to capture a raw, 'in-the-room' energy. While the base tone was a cranked Marshall stack, Angus Young often used the Schaffer-Vega wireless system as a secret weapon to add sustain and harmonic richness, particularly for lead work and specific overdubs performed while sitting in the control room.
