The recording
The song was recorded during The Wall sessions (1979) at multiple locations including Super Bear Studios in France, Producers Workshop in Los Angeles, and others. Produced by Bob Ezrin, David Gilmour, and James Guthrie, the solo is the result of Gilmour comping the best sections from three distinct performance takes. Gilmour's guitar chain was split to run his Hiwatt amp in parallel with a Yamaha RA-200 rotary cabinet, providing that signature rotating, singing sustain.
