The recording
The 1969 recording of 'The Thrill Is Gone' was produced by Bill Szymczyk. It was tracked with minimal effects, relying on the natural, punchy, high-headroom solid-state amplification preferred by King during that period. The studio setup used an EMT plate reverb for final smoothing, but the raw guitar tone was captured clean through the Gibson solid-state rig. King focused purely on phrasing and dynamics, utilizing his characteristic wide vibrato.
