The recording
The song was originally recorded in 1988 at Woodcray Studios with producer Bob Andrews. Lee Mavers, known for his extreme perfectionism, frequently rejected studio producers and modern equipment, often demanding that the vintage studio gear remain covered in its original 1960s dust to maintain the 'vibe'. The tone is characterized by a raw, un-pedaled approach to capture the natural resonance of the instruments, aiming for a classic Merseybeat sound. Later, Steve Lillywhite was brought in to remix the tracks for the 1990 debut album, though the core guitar performance remained rooted in Mavers' original vision.

Defining amp for the chimey Merseybeat tone
Mavers sought vintage 60s amp sounds, often requesting the studio to leave equipment in its original condition.
