The recording
The song was recorded during the 'Sam's Town' sessions at Studio at the Palms in Las Vegas and Criterion in London. Co-produced by the band with Flood and Alan Moulder, the tracking process involved isolating multiple amplifiers—specifically a Fender Hot Rod DeVille, a Hiwatt Custom DR103, and a Laney head—to provide varied tone options for final selection. Dave Keuning notably replaced his earlier Stratocaster recording with the Starcaster for a fuller, more characteristic sound.
