The recording
The track was recorded in 1996-1997 at St Catherine's Court, a 15th-century mansion near Bath, Somerset, with producer Nigel Godrich. It is a multi-part composition heavily influenced by the structured approach of The Beatles' 'Happiness Is a Warm Gun' and Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. The guitar parts were tracked by Jonny Greenwood, who utilized his modified Telecaster Plus and his staple Marshall Shredmaster, with the unique filter effects achieved via a rack-mounted Mutronics Mutator.
