The recording
The classic performance of 'Night and Day' from the album 'Virtuoso' (1973) is known for its spontaneous, 'living room' atmosphere. Joe Pass recorded the session in one take without overdubs. Due to the setup, the guitar sound is characterized by the natural acoustic resonance of his Gibson ES-175, often attributed to the lack of a prominent stage amp in the final mix, lending it a dry, intimate, and highly articulate quality.
