The 1960 recording of 'Four on Six' was featured on 'The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery,' recorded for Riverside Records. Produced by Orrin Keepnews, the session captured Wes playing in a quartet with Tommy Flanagan (piano), Percy Heath (bass), and Albert 'Tootie' Heath (drums). Wes frequently used whatever reliable gear was available in the studio or borrowed instruments like the ES-175, relying on his unique thumb technique to achieve his signature mellow, articulate sound that bypassed the need for post-processing or pedals.
