The recording
The 'Breezin'' album was recorded over three days in January 1976 at Capitol Studio A in Hollywood. Produced by Tommy LiPuma and engineered by Al Schmitt, the sessions were notable for their efficiency, with several tracks, including the title song, captured in a single take. Benson recorded his guitar parts with a new-to-him Gibson Johnny Smith and a Polytone amplifier, a pairing he credits with helping create the signature, clean, and punchy sound that fueled the album's massive crossover success.
