The album was recorded at 'Barnyard', a studio built into a barn on Steve Harris's property in Essex. It was produced by Martin Birch and Steve Harris. The sound is widely noted as a return to the band's traditional roots after the experimentation of the late 80s/early 90s, focusing on the classic Marshall-heavy twin-guitar interplay of Dave Murray and Janick Gers.
