The recording
Recorded on November 4 and 15, 1963, at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. The session was produced by Alfred Lion and engineered by Rudy Van Gelder. The tone on the title track 'Idle Moments' is characteristic of the 'Blue Note sound'—dry, intimate, and capture-focused, utilizing Van Gelder's room acoustics rather than artificial reverb. Grant Green performed alongside Joe Henderson (tenor saxophone), Bobby Hutcherson (vibraphone), Duke Pearson (piano), Bob Cranshaw (bass), and Al Harewood (drums).
