The recording
Recorded at the Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, in November 1963. The session was produced by Alfred Lion. Grant Green led a quartet featuring Joe Henderson (tenor sax), Bobby Hutcherson (vibraphone), Duke Pearson (piano), Bob Cranshaw (bass), and Al Harewood (drums). The tone captured is largely a direct product of the studio's acoustics and the specific voicing of Green's archtop and tube amplification, with no artificial reverb plate effect added at the source.
