The recording
Recorded on January 8, 1963, at the legendary Rudy Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. The session was produced by Alfred Lion for Blue Note Records. Kenny Burrell played his custom L-5 guitar through a resident Fender Tweed Deluxe amplifier. The engineering by Rudy Van Gelder utilized minimalist microphone placement to capture a warm, intimate, and highly articulate sound, emphasizing the natural resonance and mid-range qualities of the guitar.
