The recording
The tracking for the 1991 album 'No More Tears' was produced by Duane Baron and John Purdell. Zakk Wylde utilized a straightforward but powerful setup, choosing to move away from the complex racks used on earlier records. The 'bone-crushing' tone was achieved by simply plugging his EMG-equipped Gibson Les Pauls into two 100-watt Marshall JCM800 2203 heads, with a Boss SD-1 providing a clean boost and a Boss CH-1 providing the subtle stereo chorus effect that permeated the album's rhythm parts. The guitar tracks were tracked in studios like A&M Studios, capturing a 'massive' sound through standard Marshall 4x12 cabinets.
