The recording
Recorded in June 1970 at Regent Sound and Island Studios in London, 'War Pigs' was produced by Rodger Bain. The track, originally titled 'Walpurgis', emerged from the band's improvisational jam sessions during their Swiss residency. Tony Iommi played the guitar parts, utilizing his 'Monkey' SG and a modified treble booster into a Laney stack; he employed a 'controlled chaos' technique by tracking layered solos to enhance the track's visceral impact.
