The recording
Recorded between December 1987 and February 1988 at Hit City West (Los Angeles) and Chung King (New York City). Produced by Rick Rubin and Slayer. This album marked a deliberate move away from the frantic pace of Reign in Blood toward a slower, heavier, 'doom-like' thrash metal sound. Both Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman contributed to the riffing, with the guitarists using their signature B.C. Rich guitars and Marshall JCM800 rigs, consistent with their established, albeit slightly refined, studio formula.
