The recording
Recorded during the sessions for 'Songs in the Key of Life' at the studio (Record Plant remote truck was used for parts of the album). Produced and arranged by Stevie Wonder. The guitar parts were played by session guitarists Michael Sembello and Ben Bridges, who were part of the core tracking band alongside Nathan Watts (bass) and Dennis Davis (drums). The guitar work on 'Sir Duke' is largely rhythmic and accent-based, doubling the horn lines and providing tight, funk-oriented comping in the verses.
