The recording
Recorded at Power Station Studios in New York City with engineer Bob Clearmountain. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards prioritized a tight, dry, and rhythmically precise sound. Rodgers played his iconic 'Hitmaker' Stratocaster directly into a Neve 8068 console. The Neve's 31102 channel strips were used to drastically cut low frequencies to leave space for the bass, while emphasizing the upper-midrange frequencies to create the signature percussive 'chucking' tone. A physical amp was used in parallel for additional body, resulting in the pristine, modern-sounding disco rhythm track.
