The recording

The Rock Show was recorded in 2001 at NRG Studios with producer Jerry Finn. Tom DeLonge’s guitar tone was built by feeding a Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster (single SH‑8 Invader humbucker) into a Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier’s dirty channel and a Marshall JCM900 4100 clean channel, blended via the Mesa’s high‑gain switch. Each amp drove its own 4×12 cabinet (Celestion Vintage 30s on the Mesa, Greenbacks on the Marshall), captured with Royer R‑121 ribbon microphones on the cabinets and recorded onto Studer A827 tape through a Neve BCM10 console. The result is a thick, high‑gain sound with the articulate note definition of the Marshall clean split.
