Recorded in 1998 at NRG Studios in North Hollywood, My Own Worst Enemy became the breakout hit of Lit’s sophomore album, A Place in the Sun. Produced by Don Gilmore, the studio sessions focused on capturing the band's raw, high-energy warehouse chemistry, famously leading to the lead singer recording his vocals completely naked to channel vulnerability. The arrangement intentionally avoids complex bridges or guitar solos, relying instead on Jeremy Popoff's driving, riff-oriented guitar work and tight ensemble playing.
